Funeral services for John Sonntag will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2011 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Chapel in Rockdale. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Jack Chelf, Jr., will officiate.

John E. Sonntag was born January 5, 1925 in Bartlett, Texas to Edwin J. and Ora M. (Brooks) Sonntag. He was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School in Houston.

On January 6, 1946, he and Corrie Ann Jones were married in Houston. To this union two daughters were born.

John has lived in Rockdale the past 61 years. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 37 and a half years. He served as Milam County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4 for 8 and a half years. He served 8 years on the Rockdale City Council. John served as Reserve Police Officer for Rockdale Police Department and was named "Peace Officer of the Year in 1986" He was manager of Rockdale Little League for 14 years. Member of Rockdale Masonic Lodge #414 AF & AM, Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Marshall for Rockdale.

John passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 4, 2011 in the Cameron Nursing Center in Cameron, reaching the age of 85. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Mary Beth Beach and his parents.

Surviving; His wife of 65 years, Ann Sonntag of Rockdale. Daughter, Dolores A. Sonntag of Rockdale. Son-in-law, John Beach of Deming, New Mexico. Sister-in-law, Sharon Littell of Rockdale. Brother-in-law, John D. Jones of Newton, Texas. Cousin, Mary Ann Goodson of Ft. Worth.

Pallbearers; Thomas Harris, Don Wardlow, Ernest Russell, Bob Dymke, Ernest Hoffmeyer, John S. Beach.

Honorary pallbearers; Deacons of First Baptist Church, former members of Rockdale Youth Baseball and American Legion Youth Baseball.

Mary Beth Sonntag Beach, daughter of John & Ann and sister of Dolores died yesterday, September 8 at her home in Deming, New Mexico.  No services are planned.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Sonntag, 88 of Rockdale are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale will officiate. Visitation is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday February 19, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Ann Sonntag was born November 18, 1925 in Belzoni, Mississippi to Corrie Franklin and Sarah Allene (McCoy) Jones. At an early age the family moved to Port Arthur then to Houston. While in Houston she worked for Western Union. On January 6, 1940 Ann married John E. Sonntag. They left Houston and moved to Rockdale around 1950 where she has lived the past 63 years. Ann worked as a telephone operator in Rockdale then Taylor and became a service representative for Southwestern Bell, retiring after 28 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale since 1950. Member of the Eastern Star Chapter 13 and had served as a past matron. She was a Democratic Precinct Chairperson for 8 years. She enjoyed needlework and collecting video tapes.

Ann passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 in the Cameron Nursing Home in Cameron. She was preceded in death by her husband John on January 4, 2011; their daughter, Mary Beth Beach on September 8, 2010; her parents and a brother, Charles F. Jones.

Surviving is her daughter, Dolores A. Sonntag of Rockdale; Brother, John D. Jones of Jasper; Sister, Sharon Littell of Houston; Son-in-law, John Beach of Deming, New Mexico; Two nieces, Patrice Penuel and Cindy Canales and her husband Mark; Two nephews, Frank Jones and Bruce Jones and a number of great nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
