Emmet Robinson Perry, 59, died Sunday evening July 22, 2007. He was surrounded by family and wrapped in the
love of the Holy Spirit.   Emmet was born July 31, 1948 in Maryville, Tenn.  Most of his childhood was  spent in
Rockdale.   He and his family moved to Houston in 1989.
He is survived by his wife Jennie Brown Perry, daughter Tracy Perry Holland and her husband Paul and son Michael, and Elizabeth Perry Ault and her husband Brad. He was preceded in death by parents Moe and Weezie Perry, Alcoans who resided in Rockdale in the 1950s and 60s.  Also surviving are his brothers, Collier Perry and wife Peggy, of Rockdale,
and Art (Copie) Perry and wife Vickie of Rancho Santa Fe, California, niece Dell Perry of Conyers, Georgia, nephew
Lin Perry, his wife Diana and their children Jackson and Elizabeth of Rockdale, niece Paige Perry Pennock and husband Andy of San Diego, and nephews Phillip and Blake Perry, also of San Diego, CA.  Also Jay and Betty Brown, parents of Jennie, of Rockdale.
Emmet, an active Episcopalian, was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Houston.  Of the many activities there
he most enjoyed serving as Chalice Bearer.
Along with his wife Jennie, he owned and operated Emmet Perry & Co. Fine Carpets and Rugs.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 28 at 4 in the afternoon at Holy Spirit, 12535 Perthshire, Houston, TX 77024.  A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that all who can do so donate blood and platelets whenever possible.

Car wreck claims Coach Ron Heflin
Sulphur Springs ? Funeral services for Jack Ronald Heflin, 33, former Rockdale High School athlete and Lexington High football coach, were held at 2 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.

Rev. Jerry Harris, Jack Chubb and Lanny Ramsey officiated.  Chubb is principal of Sulphur Springs High School and Ramsey a district judge.

Mr Heflin, head football coach at Como-Pickton High School, died in an auto accident at 5:30 PM Friday on FM 852 near Winnsboro as he and some Como-Pickton athletes were returning from a regional track meet in Kilgore.  Also killed in the wreck was a Como-Pickton senior, 17-year old Joe Bates.

Mr Heflin was a resident of the Sulphur Springs area and had been been for the past two years.  He was born July 8, 1947 in Kentucky to Mr and Mrs Jack (Florence Phisterer) Heflin.  He was preceded in death by his father.

He and Miss Karen Renee Earman were married in Rockdale on August 3, 1968.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs Karen Heflin of Sulphur Springs; one son, Ray Heflin of Sulphur Springs; one daughter, Heather Heflin of Sulphur Springs; His mother and step-father, Mr and Mrs D. R. Smith of Rockdale; one sister, Mrs Lynn Oldham of Wimberly; a step-sister, Mrs Carol Lynn Smith of Houston.

Paul bearers were Billy Dan Lindley, Jim Russell, Don Poe, Conley Bland, Larry Washburn, James Smith, Tommy Turner
and Rev. Carl Rhodes.

Honorary pall bearers were Como-Pickton athletes.

Mr Heflin was a member of Central Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs and a graduate of Rockdale High School and Southwest Texas State University.

He had been head coach at Como-Pickton since February and had been a coach at Sulphur Springs High School previously.  He was a former head coach at Lexington High School.

Funeral services for Larry Lee Praesel, 54, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 from the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Calvin Springer and Doug Springer officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. He died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Praesel, a lifelong Rockdale resident, was born Jan. 27, 1947 in Williamson County to Henry A. and Opel M.
(Willard) Praesel. He was a farmer and rancher and also worked in the oil fields.

Mr. Praesel was a member of the Forest Grove Christian Church, served in the US Army and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by former wife, Jennifer Rost Praesel.

Surviving are: Parents, Henry A. and Opel M. Praesel of Rockdale; stepdaughters, Gina Lagrone and Jody Andrews;
three brothers, Dwight Praesel and wife Melanie of Caldwell, Craig Praesel and wife Catherine of Rockdale and Keith Praesel of Rockdale; sister, Cindy Matthews and husband Dave of Rockdale; also six nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Ernest Praesel, Arthur Gus Praesel, Tom Fisher, Ron McCoy, John Brook and Walter Wentzel.

Graveside services for Rev.  Frederick R. Doss, Jr., 32, were held at 4 PM Wednesday in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Funeral services for Rev. Doss were held at 10 AM Wednesday in Faith Luthern Church, Dickinson.

Rev. Doss died Sunday at his Dickinson residence.  He had been a Dickinson resident for the past three months and was formerly a resident of Virginia.

He was born June 14, 1948 in Cameron to the late Fritz Doss and Alma Doss and was raised in Rockdale,  He was a Lutheran minister.

Rev. Doss was married to the former Peggy Jane Melcher.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Jane Doss of Dickinson; one daughter, Erica Jane Doss of Dickinson; his mother, Alma Doss of Rockdale; a step-brother, William Stauffer of Rockdale.

Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale was in charge of the graveside arrangements.

A special memorial service for Rev. Doss is scheduled for 10 AM Monday at Peace Luthern Church.

Lifelong Rockdale resident, Linda Gail Tindall Powell, 59, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. March 7, at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Carl Hudson of Meadowbrook Baptist Church officiating.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker.
She was born Dec. 26, 1947 in Cameron to Priestley and Alma (Crane) Tindall.
She married Rick Powell on June 10, 1972 in Rockdale.
She was a graduate of Rockdale High School and also beauty school. She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church
in Rockdale. She loved her family and being Nenn to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Rick Powell of Rockdale; two daughters, Heidi Powell of Austin and Kristi Paulsen and husband Aarron of Temple; brother, Brownie Tindall and wife Mary of Bryan; two sisters, Cindy Dupree and husband Henry of Rockdale and Jan Hughes and husband Glenn of Caldwell; three grandchildren, Olivia Grace Paulsen,
Ethan Powell Paulsen and Peyton Eli Paulsen.

Alcoa employee fatally burned
Funeral services for Alcoa flash fire victim Edward J. Eddie Urban, 28, were held at 2:00 PM Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial in the St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Urban was fatally burned in a flash fire last Wednesday at Alcoa's Rockdale Works and another plant employee is recovering from minor burns and a broken ankle sustained in the same accident.

Urban and Leonard Isaacs, both electricians, were working atop an elevated platform on a newly constructed aluminum powder storage tank in the plant's atomizer about  about 1:15 PM when the flash fire occurred .

Urban was rushed to Richards Memorial Hospital by Alcoa ambulance and was transferred by Army helicopter about 5:00 PM to Brooke Army Medical Burn Center, San Antonio.  He died at 9:52 PM.

Isaacs was treated at the Alcoa dispensary for minor burns to his hands and legs and was transferred to the Rockdale hospital for treatment of the broken ankle.

Alcoa officials from both Rockdale and Pittsburgh were continuing investigations into the cause of the fire, a plant spokesman said.

Urban had been employed by Alcoa since 1970 and had recently completed a four?year apprentice training course to become a certified electrician.  He was born March 2, 1948 and had resided in Rockdale all his life.

He and Beverly Dornhoefer were married Sept 24, 1971 in Rockdale.

Mass of the Resurrection was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church here Friday at 2:00 PM.  Bishop Vincent Harris, of the Diocese of Austin, presided.  Father Lonnie Urban, brother of Eddie Urban, was the main Celebrant of the Mass, with Father Paul McCallum, pastor of St. Josephs's Church here, assisting.  Some 30 priests, friends of the Urban family, participated, also a number of Sisters from St. Edwards of Cameron.  The church was filled to more than capacity as friends paid their respects to the deceased and to the Urban family.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs Beverly Urban of Rockdale; a son, Duane Urban, 13 months; his parents, Dr and Mrs A. A. Urban of Rockdale; 3 brothers, Rev Lonnie Urban of Blanco, Danny Urban of Austin and Robert Urban of Rockdale;
2 sisters, Mrs Charlotte Belczak of Chicao, Ill, and Mrs Elizabeth Buchanan of Houston.

Pall bearers were Billy Wayne Jenkins, Thomas Doss, Ken Lee Clark, Clayton Pelzel, Monroe Stork and Carl Moody.

Urban was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a graduate of Rockdale High School and attended Texas State Technical Institute in Waco.

Memorial services for Rebecca Sue Petty Simmers, 51, were held Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at Second Baptist Church in Houston.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 1 at Sharp Cemetery near Rockdale.

Mrs Simmers died Sunday, June 27 in Houston.  She was a Houston Resident.

She was born Dec 22, 1947 in Cameron to Lannis A. Petty and Mildred (Massengale) Petty.  She was a graduate of Rockdale High School and a college graduate from Southwest Texas University with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a masters of education from Houston Baptist University.  Mrs Simmers taught elementary school for 12 years in the Houston area and became a licensed professional counselor after receiving her masters degree.  She worked as a school teacher and counselor for 12 years in the Houston area.

Mrs Simmers was preceded in death by her father, Lannis Petty.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Ruth Simmers of Houston, and her mother, Mildred Petty of Sharp.

Mrs. Viola Oder James, 21, of Freeport in Freeport Tuesday morning.  She formerly lived in Buckholts and Rockdale.

Mrs James had been ill for the past year.

Funeral services were held at 3 P.M. Wednesday from the chapel of Green's Funeral Home in Cameron with burial in the Corinth Cemetery near Buckholts.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby James and one daughter, Dawn Chelise James, both of Freeport; her mother,
Mrs. H. D. Reper; two brothers, Frank Oder and Jimmy Oder of Rockdale.

James Roy Young, 58, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at his residence near Milano. Graveside service was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Forest Grove Cemetery in the Forest Grove community near Rockdale with Rev. Weldon Belew of Rockdale Christian Church officiating.
Mr. Young was born March 10, 1948 in Rockdale to Nathaniel Lee and Ida Lucille (Alford) Young.
He was a graduate of Rockdale High School and attended Navarro College. He worked construction and also worked in the oil field and was a painter.
He was preceded in death by his father, on Feb. 9, 1987 and mother on Aug. 25, 1990.
Survivors include his son, Marc Young of Houston; brother, Lee Young and wife Joy of Hutto; sister, Carolyn Drummond and husband Howard of Rockdale; special friends, Jimmie and Jodie Morgan and Jeff Jeffcoat; nephew, Daryl Lee Young; four nieces, Lori Schwarz, Gina Shroeder, Wendy Valadez and Dee Ann Estlack; four great-nephews and four great-nieces.

Funeral services for Wilburn Dyer, 56, of Rockdale were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, in First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Dyer and Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist officiating.

Mr. Dyer died Wednesday, March 17, in Richards Memorial Hospital.

A resident of Rockdale since 1975, he was born April 11, 1947, in Cameron to Boyce and Marie (Cone) Dyer and he grew up in the Mount Zion community.

Mr. Dyer was a 1968 graduate of Rockdale High School.

He married Carol Mantel on Sept. 20, 1975, in St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Dyer worked on the construction crew of Lone Star Gas in Cameron and with B&B Co. of Milano until 1976. In 1976 he became a pot tender for Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations until his retirement in 2003.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Rockdale. Mr. Dyer was also a member of Rockdale Masonic Lodge No. 414 AF&AM, the United Steelworkers of America and Alcoa’s 25-Year Club.

He loved to play his guitar and sing, and he served many years leading the music at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Dyer, on Oct. 26, 1978; his parents; and an infant brother, Raymond Dyer.

Survivors are his wife, Carol Dyer of Rockdale; a son Bradley Dyer of Rockdale; a daughter, Jaime Dyer of Rockdale; a sister-in-law, Shirley Caffey and husband Wayne of Rockdale; his mother-in-law, Ann and Wayne Neal of Rockdale; his father-in-law, Herbert and Inez Mantel of Rockdale.

Pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist Church–Ernest Hoffmeyer, Don Roddam, Mark Cass, David Ray, Earl Whitmore, Greg Spears and Fred Debault.

Honorary pallbearers were the Masonic Lodge of Rockdale.

Graveside services for Wayne Solomon, 61, of Minerva were held Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Minerva with Rev. Luther Shelander of Mt. Zion Baptist Church officiating.
Mr. Solomon died Monday, Dec. 1, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Minerva and Milam County, he was born Oct. 16, 1947, in Falls County to H.D. “Shorty” and Alma Ruth (McAlpine) Solomon.
Mr. Solomon worked for H.B. Zachry in yard management.
He was a 1966 graduate of Rockdale High School and he enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Mr. Solomon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Medic SP8.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Richard B. and Pete Solomon.
Survivors are two daughters, Kelly Lane of Milano, Bethany Hilda Solomon of Bay Cliff; his mother, Alma Ruth Solomon of
Minerva; and a brother, Edric Solomon of Minerva; also, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services for Brenda Burgett, 61, of Rockdale, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Earl Presley of First Christian Church officiating. Her body will be cremated.
Mrs. Burgett died Monday, Jan. 4, in Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
She was born July 10, 1948, in Ballinger to Truman and Anna Jean (Caudle) Haupt. She married Tom Burgett on Jan. 19, 1980, in Marlin.
Mrs. Burgett was a 1966 graduate of Rockdale High School and attended Texas Christian University.
She was a Rockdale resident since 1982 and was formerly of Fort Worth, Little Rock and Marlin. Mrs. Burgett was a homemaker and had also worked for Dr Pepper and Circle J. Western Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 26, 2007 and her father on July 8, 2004.
Survivors are her mother, Jean Haupt of Rockdale; two daughters, Corrie Hurley and husband Arron of Palmer, TJ Poon and husband Jason of Austin; a stepdaughter, Donna Fontenot and husband John of Cedar Creek; a step-son, Robert Burgett and wife Donna of Marlin; a brother, Jerry Haupt and wife Gwen of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Pam Young and husband Doug of Palmer; and four grandchildren, Rachel, Jason and Truman Burgett, and Rebecca Hurley.

CAMERON — Services for Mike Rogers, 64, of Cameron are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Burt Graham officiating. Interment will follow at the Corinth Cemetery in Buckholts.
Mr. Rogers died Monday, Dec. 20.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1946, in Fresno, Calif., to Elmer Rogers and Oleta Whitte. He was a Baptist, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a welder.
Survivors include a son, E.G. Rogers of Waco; a daughter, Leslie Lynn Rogers of Rockdale; a brother, Ricky Watkins of Cameron; and two sisters, Brenda Barton of Cameron and Pam Praesel of Caldwell.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Standards Home Health, 602 N. Travis, Cameron, TX 76520.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
