Funeral services for Mrs. H. D. Maxwell Sr., 67, will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at the First Christian Church with the pastor, the  Rev. David Mindel, officiating.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Maxwell died Tuesday following a heart attack suffered March 21 while she and her husband  were visiting her brother Col.  Sidney Harwell and his wife all vacationing at Guadalajara, Mexico.

Mrs. Maxwell's death came 7 days after the heart attack.  She lost consciousness March 14 and subsequently suffered several  lesser heart attacks prior to her death which came Tuesday.

The Maxwells left Rockdale for the vacation in Mexico on March 15.

The family has asked that those who desire may leave a memorial gift with the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale.

Mrs. Maxwell was born at Italy, Texas on May 18, 1904, as Gladys Harwell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Harwell.  She  and H. D. Maxwell were married April 26, 1924 at McKinney and had lived in Rockdale since 1933, when Mr. Maxwell came to the  Rockdale schools to set up a new agriculture department.

Mr. Maxwell later served as high school principal and as county superintendent of Milam County prior to his retirement.

Mrs. Maxwell also taught in the Rockdale Schools, retiring about 3 years ago.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell were prominent in church, school and civic affairs in Rockdale and Milam County.  Mrs. Maxwell was a  member of the Beta Nu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, professional teachers society.  She had served as president and had been  instrumental in the growth of this chapter which includes several area counties.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Rockdale and also of the Daughters of American Revolution and recently helped  found a Rockdale DAR Chapter.

Mrs. Maxwell's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Harwell, lived in Rockdale the last 10 or 15 years of their lives.

Survivors are her husband, H. D. Maxwell of Rockdale; 2 sons , H. D. Maxwell Jr. of South Pasadena, and Lieut. Col. Sidney Maxwell  of the United States Air Force, stationed at Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Mrs. Jim Pettigrew  of Bellaire; 3 brothers, Royce  Harwell of Amarillo,  Col. Albert Sidney Harwell of San Antonio, and T. J. Harwell of Houston; 2 sisters, Mrs. Bert Bromley of  Houston, and Mrs. James F. Smith of Amarillo.  There are also 10 grandchildren.
