Memorial service for Mrs. Glen Lumpkins, 88, was held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Robert Herald of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church officiating. She died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at the Temple Meridian Retirement Community.
Mrs. Lumpkins had lived in Temple for the past 10 years, but lived most of her life in Rockdale. She was born June 18, 1913 at Guy Store to Vivian Watson Brooks and Bessie Belle (Hardaman) Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Lumpkins.
Mrs. Lumpkins and George B. Lumpkins were married June 15, 1935 in Rockdale. She was a school teacher for 38 years, starting teaching in one room schools in Rockdale and Milano area and taught for Rockdale ISD for many years.
Mrs. Lumpkins was associated with St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Temple for the past 10 years. She was a member for 50 plus years at the First Christian Church in Rockdale and was a former member of the Rockdale American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are: Daughter, Judy Slusher and husband Joe of Rockdale; grandsons, Ron Slusher and wife Robin of League City and Mike Slusher and wife Windy of Victoria; great grandchildren, Travis Joseph Slusher of League City, Alisha Slusher and Makayla Slusher both of Victoria; sister, Bonnie Belle Fleming of Canyon Lake.
Memorials may be made to Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale, the American Heart Association or charity of choice.
