Marcus M. Twitty, Jr., went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. Beloved father and husband, artist, preacher, teacher, and counselor, Marcus answered the call to serve in many ways. Born in Temple, on Aug. 23, 1927, he was the oldest son of Marcus M. Twitty, Sr. and Melba Upshaw Twitty.

He attended Baylor University and Southwest Texas University. He love spending time with family and friends and was renowned as a great listener. He loved to paint, sketch and write and was blessed with tremendous natural talent. He also loved reading, travel, fishing and trains.

He goes to be with his parents, and brother, John Edd Twitty. Mr. Twitty is survived by his wife, Joan; his sister, Rosemary Ramsey; his children, Ann Caughran and husband Keith, Karen Twitty, Amy Downey and husband Tommy, Tammy Starke, Maria Luhrman and husband Michael, Chris Valentine, Michael Valentine and wife Susan, Katya Kuhn and husband Buddy, and Daniel Valentine as well as 21 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at Vaughan's Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Vitas for their service to Marcus in his final months. Marcus Merle Twitty, Jr. of Boerne, formerly of Austin.

Marcus taught English and language arts in Rockdale, Houston, Camp Gary Job Corps, Eanes ISD, and ESL to immigrants after retirement.

Marcus was a lifelong learner, artist and poet.

He will live on in the memories of his dear wife Joan, four daughters, five step-children, sister Rosemary, eighteen grandchildren, five greats, sons-in-law and nieces and nephews.
