MILLER, Wannie of Temple. Age 54. Died 5/1975 (Monday) (in paper 5/15/75) in Temple after a long fight with cancer. Services held (Tuesday) in Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Burial in Bellwood Cemetery. Rev. R.B. Baker officiated.
He was BORN 11/12/1920 in Pike, graduated from Gunter High School, received bachelor's and master's degrees in education at Austin College where he was awarded the Pete Cawthon trophy as the outstanding athlete in 1942. Married Goldie Fitzgerald in 1942. He served in the Navy during WW-2, then coached and taught at Austin College while getting his master's degree.
He began coaching at Sherman and after that coached at Van Alstyn, Navasota and Rockdale. Quit coaching in 1960 to join a sporting goods firm, later owned and operated Cen-Tex Sporting Goods in Temple and the past 7 years was a principal, coach, assistant principal and the principal at Travis Junior-high at the time of his death.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Goldie Miller, Temple; 2 daughters, Mrs. Sandra Sue Sanders and Mrs. Rebecca Jo Henderson, Temple; mother, Mrs. Beulah Berry of Miami, TX.; brothers, C.M. Miller, Jr. of Gunter and Harrison Miller of Amarillo; 1 grandson.
